“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire” - William Butler Yeats
Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,
Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year at Canoga. I would like to introduce myself and give you some information that I hope will help make this a successful year for your child.
I am a parent of a girl and boy who are now grown up (or so they keep telling me) and of whom I am very proud. I am also a lucky wife, a proud mother-in-law, and an elated grandmother (that's me in white next to my little grandaughter.) This is my twelfth year teaching special education classes at Canoga and my nineteenth year in education. This year I will be teaching 9th grade literacy and English, 12th grade English in special ed, as well as Leadership/Peer Mentoring and coordinating the Link Crew. I enjoy teaching because I enjoy seeing children learn and grow into responsible young adults. I believe that all students learn and do their best if they are provided with a safe and challenging environment where they are valued as individuals and inspired to work to their potential.
Parents’ assistance is paramount to a student’s success. Because there is so much to learn, it is very important for students to have good attendance. Please make sure your child is in school daily with required materials. This is going to be a great year. My goal for each of the students is to work to their potential and beyond. We can accomplish this goal by working as a team. Thank you for your help. The children deserve the best we can give them.
If you have any questions, would like to discuss your child, or want to review the materials we are using, please call the school and leave a message for me, or send me an email through the Canoga Website. If you would like to visit my classroom, just leave a message when you would like to come and stop in the main office when you get here so that they can direct you to room 504B. I am usually here from 7:30 am until 4:30 pm, but could make other arrangements if necessary. If your child is having problems, I will try to contact you as soon as possible. I look forward to meeting and talking with you.
