College Center at Canoga Invites Students to Explore their Options

Ms. Rosso in the College Center
It is the belief at Canoga that all students can go to college. The College Center is a resource to help every student in achieving that goal. We provide college information and guidance to all students to help maximize each students post secondary choices. The college counselor, Ms Rosso is available before school, brunch, lunch, and after school daily, as well as by appointment for both students and parents.

The aim of the College Center is to inform parents and students about the steps that must be taken to be prepared for their post secondary choices. Yearly parent information nights are scheduled for each grade level. Evening meetings are in the spring for 9th, 10th, and 11th grade and the senior information meeting is in the fall. Seniors and their parents are also encouraged to attend a December Financial Aid meeting.

Canoga is also a site for "Cash for College" in January where parents and students can receive one-on-one counseling on financial aid forms. Seniors have an opportunity to attend application workshops for the Cal State, UC and Community Colleges. Regularly scheduled college representatives assist students with applications throughout the fall and early spring. Peer counselors meet each senior once in the fall and in the spring to help peers with post secondary plans before each senior meets with Ms. Rosso. All seniors are currently registered on "My Footpath" a program that allows seniors to research colleges track their applications and receive current info on college center activities, and deadlines.

Throughout the year representatives from local and community, Cal States, UC and private colleges come to the college center to meet with students interested in learning more about their institutions.

The college center serves as a college test center. Registration materials and fee waivers are distributed for the SAT and ACT tests, required for 4year college admission. SAT prep classes in the spring for juniors are also coordinated in the office.

The college center itself is a resource with college information files, a college catalogue library and a scholarship box. All students are encouraged to visit the college office often to get the latest college info.
