Performing Arts Academy


The Performing Arts Academy at Canoga Park High School is a small learning community that introduces the history, practice, career opportunities and skill development in performing arts. Students have the same English, History and "chosen" Elective teachers. This enables the teachers and students to work together to develop interrelated lessons and projects. Field trips to various events to help support all aspects of performing arts are a major component of the program. Performing art students are required to job shadow a professional in their field of study before completion of their senior year. Internships are available for high achieving students. Students will learn job skills and information on the colleges and university opportunities available in their field of interest.

Drama A/B


Confidence will be developed through various drama exercises. Students will learn voice techniques, which will help them as a student, actor, or professional. Students will analyze, perform and write scenes for theatre and film.

Play Production


Students will learn everything taught in the beginning of the class, except it will be based on producing a play. Students will also learn how to analyze scripts to design both straight and character make-up and to design costumes. Designing publicity promotion posters for the productions will also be a component of the program.

Technical Arts


Students will learn to analyze scripts in order to create sets, and sound and lighting designs for Play Production. The class will have hands-on experience in building sets, designing and setting both light and sound. In addition, students through teamwork will run sound and lights for assemblies, meetings and dances.

Dance

The dance program offers two classes during the school year. Beginning dance, which is offered in the fall semester, gives students the opportunity to explore many different types of dance. Advanced Dance which is offered in the spring, allows students to broaden their horizons in the filed of dance. Advanced students will have the opportunity to choreograph routines and enhance their understanding in dance related careers, performance technique and teaching dance as a career.

Music


The award winning Music Department includes Beginning and Marching Band, Advanced Orchestra, Guitar Ensemble, Choir and Jazz Band. Students learn different areas of concentration: performance, music industry, career opportunities and music education. The music department collaborates with Drama, Dance and Media classes in culminating activities.
