CPHS provides for Safe and Drug Free Schools
Title IV funding has allowed for three life changing programs on our campus. They are: IMPACT, TUPE and UNITED COLORS

Dr, Thompson, principal of Canoga Park High School with Ms. Michaels and Ms. Ring. Can you tell who is who?
IMPACT is... Los Angeles Unified School District's prevention and early intervention curriculum based, student assistance program for secondary schools. The program is designed to provide students with the skills and support required for them to make positive life choices. The goal of IMPACT is to improve student achievement. IMPACT provides a system for the identification, referral and support of students who are exhibiting behavior of concern related to personal crisis, possible substance abuse or violence. Parents may refer their child to Canoga'S IMPACT program by calling the Freshmen Center and asking for Mrs. Medina; at extensions 1344. She is our IMPACT coordinator and all referrals should go through her.
TUPE (Tobacco Use Prevention Education) is... Canoga High's Tobacco education and cessation program. TUPE is active in supporting a smoke-free environment. The majority of lifetime smokers start in their teen years. Canoga High offers a cessation program to assist students. If you are concerned that your child is smoking or the majority of their friends are smokers, please contact Mrs. Medina in the Freshmen Center. Ms. Smilanick is our TUPE coordinator and all referrals should go through her. For download: Bulletin X-1 Bulletin Z-73
UNITED COLORS is... Our program, created in 1992, to settle the types of disturbances that occur on a typical high school campus. The mission of UNITED COLORS is to maintain a peaceful campus, provide for cultural diversity and positive communication while improving human relations among our student body. Students, principals, and teachers receive training in order to learn the tools to resolve conflicts. UNITED COLORS is comprised of student leaders who represent all the different ethnicities and sub-cultures on campus. These students meet weekly to discuss both school wide and society issues. during these sessions they have the opportunity to learn from each other and understand another point of view. This type of weekly activity brings students together so they will learn that through positive communication and student interaction they will make a difference. When a conflict does occur at school, these leaders take ownership of their group and resolve it based on techniques learned in group sessions.
"If not now when? If not us, who?" The sponsors of UNITED COLORS are Ms. Michaels, Mr. Moreno, and Mr. McGee For further information, please contact Ms. Michaels in the Freshman center. |
