Coach Breniman
Ansel Breniman was the head football coach at Canoga Park High School for over 30 years. Beginning in 1930, he guided his teams to nine league titles and twenty-five first division finishes. His overall record was 121 wins, 82 loses, and 10 ties.

The following is an excerpt from Canoga High's 1964 Utopian Yearbook, dedicated to Coach Breniman:

"During his stay at Canoga Park High School, Mr. Breniman taught the game of football to over a thousand boys. Many of these boys became so proficient in the game that after leading the Hunters to victory they went on to star for college teams. The stars owe Coach Breniman a debt of gratitude.

But far greater is the debt owed by the boys who learned from the coach things other than passing, kicking, blocking and tackling…Mr. Breniman has been the rarest of individuals, a winning football coach who is also a character builder…

Of course, Mr. Breniman is to be congratulated on his outstanding coaching record…But for molding young men into the attitude that the individual is not so important as the team, and that one's best effort is not always good enough but it must always be given, Mr. Breniman merits the thanks of thirty-four years of Canoga students."

Coach Breniman retired from football in 1963 but continued to teach health and P.E. at Canoga until 1969. In addition to varsity football, he coached track, and at various times basketball, tennis, gymnastics, and swimming. The football field was named in his honor in 1975.

"For demonstration of outstanding coaching ability, Coach, we salute you; for devotion to the school above and beyond the call of duty, we honor you; and for a job well done, we thank you."
