![]() SENIOR CLASS IN COURT
On the 22nd of April 2009, the Government and Economics classes went on a field trip to the Los Angeles U.S District Courthouse. After a bus drive to downtown LA, we arrived at the courthouse and were welcomed by some very kind assistants. It was explained to us that there were many rules. We needed to show respect and to be quiet while inside the building because there were courtrooms that were in session. Then students participated in a mock trail. They had to go to their positions and become educated about their roles. They were trained by actual judges and advocates who guided them through the process. The case was about illegal drug possession and it was interesting to hear both the prosecution and the defendant positions. It was like a real trial. After that there were speakers who talked to us about jobs that involved the courthouse. It was great. For example the U.S Marshall, who acts as the court police officers were interesting. Before we came back to school, we went to eat across from the courthouse where there was a mall.
