KTLA HONORS AWARD WINNING STUDENT

Stephanie Calix was awarded a trip to the presidential inauguration in Washington D.C. Her story will be on the KTLA News on January 17th.

1/06/2009
Stephanie completed a video project called “My First Vote.” It won a CNN and Time Warner Cable Contest that was open to all southern California schools.

Steph interviewed Canoga Park alumni and teachers about their voting experiences and even convinced Mr. McGee and Mr. Tibbetts to sing "America the Beautiful " as the soundtrack. Her work was well received. She accrued enough popular votes to make the final round. In the finals her video was judged by experts in the field. We received the good news last month when the judging was completed...

Stephanie was the grand prize winner. Her prize is a trip to the Presidential Inauguration in Washington DC. She will attend the historic event as the only representative from the contest.

Channel 5 News is running a story on the inauguration and they arrived this week to interview Stephanie and to watch the video. It was a treat to meet legendary reporter Mr. Stan Chambers and his producer/ camera woman Leslie. We look forward to seeing the story on the air.

Stay tuned for further installments as Stephanie Goes to Washington!
