INTRODUCING MR. CLANCY!!!!

We would like to introduce one of our Magnet Coordinators, Mr. Dennis Clancy. He is also our Band Director, and Varsity Baseball Coach!



Where did Mr. Clancy grow up?
Mr. Clancy grew up in Culver City, CA.
 
What high school did he attend?
Mr. Clancy attended Culver City High School.
 
What activities was Mr. Clancy involved in when he was in high school?
He was mostly involved in the jazz band, he played the trumpet. As a senior, he was the lead in a musical, which was a Rock Music version of Shakespeare’s, “Two Gentlemen of Verona.”
 
How does he like working at Canoga?
He said he likes it a lot!
 
What advice does He have for students here at Canoga?
Mr. Clancy’s advice is to, "Get involved.  High school only comes around once, make the most of it!”
 
Has he ever taught at another school?
Mr. Clancy taught in the Police Academy Magnet at Monroe High School for 18 years. There, he taught Constitutional Law, World History, and U. S. History.
 
Why did he decide to come to Canoga Park High School?
“I was asked by Mrs. Hamashita (former principal), to come to Canoga, and start the World Languages Magnet.”
 
What other jobs has Mr. Clancy had?
He worked selling educational materials before he attended college.
 
What does Mr. Clancy do in his spare time?
In his spare time, Mr. Clancy plays baseball. He said that he’s very competitive. He also plays and sings in a band.
 
What kind of music does he like?
Mr. Clancy likes all kind of music, especially rock and jazz. One of his favorite artists would have to be Todd Rundgren.
 
What is something we might not know about Mr. Clancy that he would like us to know?
He said, “I had huge hair in high school!” See his senior yearbook picture to the right!
 
Where did he go to college?
Mr. Clancy went to Cal State Long Beach, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree, and his teaching credential. He earned a masters degree in History at UCLA, and a master degree in Education. He also attended CSUN, where he earned a master’s degree in Education Administration.
 
What was his major in college?
Mr. Clancy majored in History.
 
Why did Mr. Clancy become a teacher?
He became a teacher because he wanted to do something that was about serving and giving back.
 
Why did he choose the subject that he teaches?
He has a passion for it. “History, Baseball, and Music all the way.”
 
Are there any clubs or activities he sponsors at Canoga?
“I am the marching and jazz band director, as well as the coach of the Varsity boy’s baseball team here at Canoga.  My plate is full.”
