INTRODUCING MS. HASKINS!!!
We would like to introduce Canoga’s College Counselor, Ms. Tonya Haskins!
Where did Ms. Haskins grow up?
Ms. Haskins was born in Manhattan, New York, but moved to North Carolina at the age of 8. She now lives in California because ever since she was five years old she wanted to live here.
What high school did she attend?
Ms. Haskins attended South Robeson High School in North Carolina.
What activities was Ms. Haskins involved in when she was in high school?
She was involved in her high school’s marching band, cheerleading squad, and Beta club (Honor Society). In case you were wondering; Ms. Haskin played the clarinet while she was in her high school’s band.
Where did she go to college?
She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
What was Ms. Haskins’ major in college?
Ms. Haskins majored in English Literature.
How does she like working at Canoga?
Ms. Haskins says that she loves to work here at Canoga, because of the students, and because she feels very welcomed.
What advice does Ms. Haskins have for students here at Canoga?
“Always strive for the best, because you don’t know the opportunities you missed because you didn’t do your best.”
Has she ever worked at another school?
Yes, she was a counselor at Robert Frost Middle School and Sutter MS before coming to Canoga.
What other jobs did she have before Counseling?
She used to work as a strategic planning coordinator at an insurance company. In other words, her job was to work on projects to ensure that the company reached its 5 year goals.
Why did Ms. Haskins choose the position of a college counselor?
Her reason for becoming a college counselor was, “because part of helping students achieve their goals includes education after high school.”
What does she do in her spare time?
In her spare time, Ms. Haskins spends time with her friends and watches reality television.
What kind of music does Ms. Haskins like?
Her favorite genres of music are Rock and Pop; her favorite band of all time is the Electric Light Orchestra, known as ELO.
What is something we might not know about Ms. Haskins that she would want us to know?
Ms. Haskins had studied ballet and wanted to become a dancer. She later found interest in other career choices, and decided to pursue a different career.
