Barney Burman graduated from Canoga in 1984, and has since pursued a career in makeup effects for many movies and T.V. shows. Some of his work includes Mission Impossible III, The Grinch, Dawn of the Dead, and Pearl Harbor.

 

Barney Burman sat for an in-depth interview with Canoga seniors, Nicolas Mejia and Gulianna Orlandoni in front of an overflowing crowd of students in the Oral Arts Room. He brought with him some of his work, as well as his Oscar, which he allowed the students to take photos with. To celebrate his visit, Canoga administration gave him the honor of being Principal for the Day. His first official act as principal was to extend lunch!

 

Walking through the halls he found himself reminiscing about his years at Canoga and the experiences he had here. He shared with the students some of his memories (both good and bad) about his teachers, fellow students, and life as a high school student. Along with his sense of humor he was extremely gracious, and didn’t reject any request for photos or autographs with the student body.

 

During his interview he talked about many different topics including his school years, his career, and his family. When he introduced his wife Shielu (who entered the room carrying the Oscar) the students cheered loudly for her. Together they spent lunch eating with students and greeting many of Canoga’s Staff.

 

Canoga Park High School will always have its gates open for Barney Burman and wishes him all the best in his career and life. We are very grateful for the time he spent with us, and hope to be visited by him again in the future.
