Cultural Awareness (AVID) 9

Teacher:

Hello! My name is Amber Tesh and I am part of the English department at Canoga Park High School. I also teach the ninth grade AVID elective. If you need to reach me, please feel free to contact me at the link below.

AVID is one of the many resources at Canoga Park High School that help a student attain entrance into college. AVID is a special elective class that targets the "middle of the road" student who has the ability to attend a four-year university, but might not have the needs to attain it. AVID is a four program with each year maintaining a specific emphasis. In the 9th grade AVID classes students will: work with college tutors every Tuesday and Thursday to help them in their academic classes, participate in weekly writing exercises to enhance their writing/vocabulary skills, study academic vocabulary, utilize and implement study tools, such as Cornell notes taking, master organization skills by using their agenda book daily to record and monitor assignments, and have access to a personal AVID counselor and coordinator to assist with any academic needs or questions. Students will also partake in educational and cultural field trips, college campus visits, and service learning projects that will help the school and community.
